Along with Beppu and Yufuin, the town of Hiji is
famous for its hot spring
resorts in the “hot spring
prefecture” of Oita.
Overlooking the picturesque Beppu Bay and blessed with over 50 natural springs,
Hiji has long been lauded for its water,
delicious sake and hot springs.
At Hotel Solage Spa & Resort Oita Hiji,
our spas utilize sodium chloride water
from natural spring right
on our property.
Enjoy sea breeze and a spectacular ocean view of Beppu Bay as you take a long relaxing soak in Hotel Solage Spa & Resort Oita Hiji’s open-air hot springs. Gaze at sunrise in the morning, the blue sky and sea during the day, or the city lights and fishing lamps at night, and let the warm spring water wash your fatigue away.
Hotel Solage Spa & Resort Oita Hiji has two open-air baths: Japanese-style with natural wooden features, and a chic Western-style with stone-clad bath that alternate between the male and female baths every morning.
The large bath is open and spacious with a south-facing window. High-quality, 100% natural spring water envelops your body and melts your stress away through a jacuzzi and water cascade.
The saunas in the large bath are convection-heated dry saunas. Our private bath Fukae are equipped with steam mist saunas and infrared-emitting microlite that provides therapeutic benefits for the mind and body. The saunas are open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to midnight. The steam saunas are available for use from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Water Quality Characteristics | The spring is a sodium calcium-chloride bicarbonate spring. This type of water is beneficial for muscle pain, nerve pain and joint pain, making it ideal for relieving fatigue from travel. Sodium chloride springs, or salt springs as they are more commonly known, taste salty on the tongue. While bathing, the salt adheres to the skin and causes the body to retain heat subsequently, and as such this kind of water is generally referred to as “heat water”. Sodium ions stimulate the brain's hormones and increase estrogen, so it is also effective in treating menopausal symptoms. |

Bathing Effect | Promotes blood circulation, has strong sterilizing power, and soothes pain. Also effective for cuts, burns, weakly children, and skin and feminine conditions. Please note that people with skin allergies or sensitive skin should avoid prolonged bathing and excessive hot water as they may cause inflammation. |
Skin-Beautifying Benefits | Sodium-bicarbonate springs cleanse the skin, acting like soap to soften the epidermis, emulsify sebum and remove dirt. Hot springs that claim skin-beautifying benefits are typically sodium-bicarbonate as this is the water type that produces the smoothness and silkiness associated with beautiful skin. |
Our stone baths Youkoku and Fukae are popular with guests
wishing to enjoy a spa in private, with family, or friends.
Suitable for groups of up to 10 people,
they are making the spas a true space for healing.
Feel the benefits of hot spring water and the therapeutic effect of microlite in low-temperature mist sauna in our Fukae private bath.
Microlite is a mysterious mineral acclaimed by many scientists as the greatest discovery of the latter half of the 20th century, and is thought to be effective in revitalizing cells.
A steam bath that uses energy to increase the body’s innate healing capacity and returns it to its normal internal state through exposure to low-temperature wet steam. Changes are noticeable much sooner than with magnetic therapy or supplements.
