Try “Jigoku Mushi” – The Hell-Steamed Cuisine
After exploring the Hell Tour, indulge in Beppu’s traditional “Jigoku Mushi” cuisine, where food is steamed using natural hot spring vapors. This cooking method dates back to the Edo period and brings out the natural flavors of vegetables, meats, seafood, rice dumplings, and even sweet buns. Some facilities allow visitors to try steaming their own food for a hands-on culinary experience! You can find Jigoku Mushi in both the Umi Jigoku and Chinoike Jigoku areas.
